We are historians and
we do history differently.

We are historians and we do history differently.

Good research and good storytelling go hand in hand. Every year we collect, analyze, and database tens of thousands of historical documents, images, artifacts, and other cultural assets. We work with community members to document their stories and understand their needs. Then we collaborate to share their stories through museum exhibits, reports, documentaries, or digital databases—and that’s just the start. There are infinite ways to capture and share history, and our work is evolving every day.

Archival Research

Following the paper trail has taken our historians to archives and institutions far and wide. Over the past decade, we’ve collected and analyzed hundreds of thousands of government records, letters, and reports, offering valuable insights into the past. Whether it’s a quick discovery or a complex investigation, we support our clients by gathering, analyzing, and presenting historical records that provide a deeper understanding of history.

Books

Books are a powerful way to preserve, share, and celebrate history and culture. We’ve had the honour of working with communities and organizations to create a range of beautiful, informative texts, from hardcover coffee table books to children’s books. Know History supports every aspect of book development, including research, writing, oral history interviews, photography, and design.

Collections Management

Our cultural resource inventory projects help communities protect and share their heritage. Inventories bring together oral history, traditional knowledge, photographs, maps, and artifacts all in one tool to preserve the histories of communities and support ongoing and future work.

Commemorative Anniversaries

Behind every milestone is a story worth celebrating. As experienced researchers, imaginative thinkers, and creative storytellers, we work closely with organizations and communities to highlight their achievements, honour important legacies, and inspire future generations. Our projects include digital timelines, commemorative books, documentaries, and more.

Community Engagement and Training

Community engagement is at the heart of everything we do. By collaborating with communities to sharing their stories, knowledge, and perspectives, we ensure historical narratives are both accurate and reflective of diverse experiences. This involvement can take many forms, from gathering input on proposed projects to recording Indigenous Knowledge and determining which stories to share with the public.

Corporate or Organizational History

History can shape brands, inspire teams, and turn stories into a lasting part of an organization’s identity. Whether you’re marking a milestone, welcoming new leadership, or exploring ways to engage employees, our team helps you connect with your roots, value, and mission. From oral history interviews to corporate archives, there are countless ways to capture and share your story.

Digital History

Data is a powerful resource—one that empowers communities to define its own stories and navigate confidently towards the future. Our in-house team of digital historians, programmers, and software engineers combine their expertise to help communities manage their historical data and leverage it to effectively tell the stories that matter most.

Interpretive Products

History is anything but boring, and neither are the ways we can share it. Our team of historians and creative professionals use innovative approaches to transform complex histories into memorable experiences. Our projects include mini-documentaries, virtual exhibits, interpretive maps, and outdoor displays, all created to fully engage audiences with historical stories.

Museum Exhibits

We are visual storytellers. We believe that collaborating to know and share your experiences, your truths, has transformative power. From objects, images, documents, and multimedia, we create powerful encounters, lasting memories, and necessary conversations. Every project is a voyage of self-discovery, and every discovery a message of welcome to all who find it. Our interpretive promise is to help you find and share your own unique voice. And to make it unforgettable.

Oral History

Our oral history projects and community engagement efforts are dedicated to capturing the voices and stories that define communities. Working together, we document personal narratives and collective memories, ensuring that these lived experiences are preserved and shared.

Registries and Genealogical Research

Our researchers have worked with Indigenous Nations and their legal representatives to conduct hundreds of thousands of hours of genealogical research and to support governance and rights assertion. We collaborate closely with Indigenous Nations to develop secure, customized digital registries that house and organize vital information about citizens and their ancestors.
