Hero Project,
Canadian Museum of History

During 2022 and 2023, Know History teamed up with the Canadian Museum of History for the Hero Project, reviewing audio recordings and transcripts provided by the museum and Roger Jones.

Roger is the brother of Rocky Jones, an activist who launched the HERO (Black Historical and Educational Research Organization) Project in the 1970s. In the summer of 1971, several Black students in Nova Scotia conducted oral history interviews with Black Nova Scotians over the age of 65, to capture their experiences growing up and preserve the community’s history. Know History reviewed the Hero Project’s audio recordings, created an inventory, and provided a summary of the materials for the Canadian Museum of History. We also confirmed the accuracy of the corresponding transcripts, highlighting any potential errors.
