Learn more about the top 100 pivotal moments that contributed to the rich heritage and lasting impact of Canadian garden culture.
In celebration of the Year of the Garden, Know History partnered with the Canadian Garden Council to curate a list of the 100 most influential moments in Canadian gardening history. This project honors the enduring contributions of individuals within the horticultural community and showcases the rich and diverse heritage of Canadian garden culture. Our research team initially identified over 130 significant moments, spanning from Indigenous sea gardens in British Columbia to historic vineyards in Ontario. These moments were then carefully reviewed by the Canadian Garden Council’s expert committee, who selected 100 of the most historically significant sites, individuals, and events from across the country. The list can be viewed on the Canadian Garden Council’s website, and will continue to expand as more research is conducted into each moment.
