Community Engagement and Training

At the heart of every meaningful history project are the voices of those who lived it. Community engagement ensures that historical research projects are grounded in lived experience, cultural knowledge, and collective memory. Our team specializes in designing engagement strategies that build trust and long-lasting relationships.

Listening first, then building together

We begin every engagement process by listening—whether through interviews, workshops, community meetings, or informal conversations. Our team has worked with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities, as well as cultural organizations across Canada. Effective engagement leads to shared decision-making and meaningful results. We help transform stories, ideas, and insights into tangible outcomes such as exhibitions, publications, digital archives, or commemorative events.

Our approach to engagement includes training opportunities that empower communities to lead their own research. Whether it’s learning archival research skills, conducting oral history interviews, or supporting project-specific activities, we help build the capacity needed for long-term impact. We also ensure that communities retain ownership over their knowledge and have full support in deciding how their stories are shared.
