Cultural resources document and represent the activities and accomplishments of past generations and distinct communities. Documenting and preserving a community’s cultural resources enriches the lives of both residents and visitors by deepening their understanding of traditions and heritage.
Recognized for their heritage value, cultural resources include both physical and intangible evidence of the past. Physical resources include archaeological artifacts, buildings, clothing and artwork, while intangible assets encompass cultural traditions, knowledge, folklore and language.

Know History offers a breadth of cultural inventory services to help communities identify, document, interpret, preserve and share their cultural resources.
Once Know History has identified and recorded a community’s cultural resources, we organize, evaluate and present this data based on the community’s unique needs. We also provide a final report with summary and analysis of all the data and input collected from the community throughout the process. For some clients, we create digital inventories and geographic information systems (GIS) maps that can support policy development, land use planning, conservation efforts, community development, and heritage planning and management. We can also develop interpretative materials and tourism products such as physical or online exhibits, dynamic story maps, and digital applications.
