Exhibition Redesign,
Royal Alberta Museum

Know History was retained by the Royal Alberta Museum to support the creation of 33 new exhibits in preparation for its reopening in 2018.

Researchers conducted archival and secondary source research at provincial, national, and municipal repositories. Know History also planned and conducted oral history interviews with Cree and Métis knowledge holders to ensure their communities’ stories and heritage were accurately and respectfully represented in the permanent gallery.

Know History worked with the Royal Alberta Museum to conduct in-depth research for several of the proposed exhibits for the museum’s newest site in downtown Edmonton. Know History worked with other seasoned interpretive planners and curatorial staff to create eye-catching, historically accurate visuals and documents for each exhibit’s topic. The topics included the history of the Papaschase First Nation, dentistry, the forestry industry, equal rights, First Nations leadership, Frog Lake, Métis settlements, and more.

Know History also engaged with various First Nations in Alberta to ensure that their stories were accurately and respectfully represented throughout the exhibitions. With numerous successful projects led by Know History, the team also oversaw the production of large murals for the Royal Alberta Museum.
